In order to install custom contents for The Sims 3 there are many ways, depending on the file type you should install. For example .sims3pack files such as what you can download from the Exchange, are self install files and you need just a double click to install them and see them in sims 3 launcher.
First, usually you should extract RAR or ZIP files. We suggest to use Winrar or if you have a MAC Stuffit. Both sofware manage both RAR, ZIP and other archives.
